Upgraded to this paddle from a Butterfly Naifu and I can definitely feel the difference. While the other paddle was good, the Kiyoshi takes my game up another notch. There’s more speed, more control and plenty of spin over the Naifu. I can place the ball on the table with greater accuracy and improved speed-spin, triple bonus. I’ve only played with it a couple of weeks so I think it’s only going to get better…

The Kyoshi is an excellent racket/bat for the beginning player. If you are learning your style of play and if you are thinking that you want to be a blocker or a defender, then you have (probably) outgrown the Kyoshi and it is not enough racket for you.
The Kyoshi will help you when you are learning the basics because you will see the effects of a well executed hit. A good topspin loop will drop like a scud missile. A nice chop from 8ft behind the table will float long.
Remember that if you execute on a crappy racket you will get results as well, but the room for error on the Kyoshi is greater and the spin effects on the ball will be exaggerated because the rubber on the Kyoshi is fairly nice.
I play ping pong with my 3 sons (ages 12, 13, and 14). In the span of a single game, every one of my kids noticed that the Kyoshi put better spins on the ball and that the ball moved faster when they (tried to) smash the ball. Their frame of reference was with the crappy paddles that come 2 in a set and that set comes with a few 38mm balls. Right now the boys don’t touch the ’set’ paddles anymore.
The rubber on the Kyoshi has a nice tacky feel to it. When it gets dirty you will notice a drop in performance. Wipe it down (slightly soapy dish water is what I use), dry it off, and get back to playing. The Kyoshi is not indestructible. Take care of it and it should last. Mine is showing signs of wear after a month, but my kids are brutal with it and it is used every day.

Great bat for the price, however I’m not much of a fan of the flared handle and prefer the anatomical. But this is a great combination of power and control for my ALL(-) style.

Great control/spin. Lighter than average weight. Possibly as good as it gets at any price for the daily player.
I’ve never played competition, but play 300 days per year with friends, family and visitors. I purchase a new pair for myself and my wife about twice each year (for the last 8 years); never been disappointed by Butterfly products, but these are slightly better than the last Butterfly set we bought earlier in 2008.

This was my first racquet in USA and i am glad i bought it. Initially i did not like the racquet since it did not have good racquet speed. But slowly i adjusted to it and started liking it. I liked the control it provided while returning smashes. It also provided decent spin and speed.
